Training Breakdown
Air Base Protection and Security
Most Air Force Reserve candidates are already qualified in a trade or profession, so initial training courses concentrate on fundamental skills and preparing you for life in the Air Force.
Course: Initial Military Training (IMT)
Location: Your home base and RAAF base in Wagga, NSW.
Duration: Reservists can expect to attend their home base on average one to two days per month in order to complete physical fitness assessments and pre-requisite training required for the residential phase. This is followed by a 4-week residential phase at the 1 Recruit Training Unit (1RTU), which is located at RAAF Base Wagga in NSW.
Following IMT, Airbase Protection and Security trainees are required to complete Airbase Protection Initial Employment Training (IET), which consists of a 4-week residential course undertaken the RAAF Security and Fire School (RAAFSFS) at RAAF Base Amberley, QLD.
Air Force Specialist Reserve
Most Air Force Reserve candidates are already qualified in a trade or profession, so initial training courses concentrate on fundamental skills and preparing you for life in the Air Force.
Course: Specialist Reserve Induction Course (SRIC)
Location: RAAF Base East Sale, VIC
- Duration: 5 days (plus travel)
- Usually completed within two years of joining
- Ongoing specialist courses also available.
